Innovative resorbable synthetic bone regeneration material

Sil-Oss® Mode of Action

Sil-Oss® is a novel resorbable scaffold that releases ionic species that favour bone repair by natural remodelling processes.

sil.oss-step1

1. BONE DEFECT

Sil-Oss® is indicated for restoration of bone defects in implantology, periodontology, and in oral, facial and maxillofacial surgery.

sil.oss-step2

2. IMPLANT

Hydrophilicity, high surface area and porosity of Sil-Oss® ensure that after mixing with blood or saline solution Sil-Oss® forms a paste that is easily manipulated to fill the bone defect. Like with any other bone restauration material invasion by soft tissue should be avoided by means of slow resorption membrane barriers.

3. ION RELEASE AND BIOLOGICAL-LIKE APATITE FORMATION

Ca, P, Si and Zn ions are locally released following implant of Sil-Oss®. Biological-like apatite is deposited on surface of Sil-Oss enhancing its osteointegration capacity.

sil.oss-step4

4. OSTEOSTIMULATION

Continued release of ions act as local growth factors that stimulate invasion of bone forming cells and initiation of bone repair mechanisms.

5. OSTEOGENESIS, ANGIOGENESIS & MATERIAL RESORPTION

Sil-Oss® promotes osteogenesis and angiogenesis while acting as a temporary osteoconductive scaffold prior to its resorption. In this way natural bone remodeling processes balance new bone formation simultaneous to Sil-Oss® resorption.

6. COMPLETE RESORPTION AND BONE REMODELING

Material resorption leads to complete restoration of bone defect . Newly formed bone continues to be remodeled without interference of implanted material.
